What Are The Commonly Used Materials For Reducer Gears?

Forged steel
Steel has high strength and impact resistance. Heat treatment can significantly improve the mechanical properties, so it is the main material for manufacturing gears. Because the fiber direction of the forging blank is beneficial to increase the bending strength of the gear teeth, most gears, such as the forging blank, only use rolled steel directly for the gears with small stress and unimportant gears.
Cast steel
When the gear diameter is large (D>400-600 mm), the gear blank is not easy to forge, so cast steel gear blanks are often used and normalized. Commonly used grades are ZG45 and ZH50, etc.
Cast iron
Cast iron is cheap and can cast complex structural shapes, but gray cast iron has poor bending strength and impact resistance, so it is only used in low-speed and light-load open gear transmissions. Commonly used grades are HT15-33 and HT20. -40, HTr30- -54, etc. The mechanical properties of ductile iron are higher than gray cast iron, which can partially replace carbon steel. Commonly used grades are QT60-2, etc.
Non-metallic materials
High-speed and light-load gears transmit power. Non-metallic gears are commonly used in conjunction with other-metal gears to reduce the noise of gear transmission. Commonly used non-metallic materials are phenolic laminate (cloth bakelite), nylon and so on. This kind of gear has low load-bearing capacity and short life, and its allowable load is only that of steel gears.
